“Carvers Gap-26 Miles-Elevation 5512 Ft-TN & NC“
The Roan Mountain Run 261 was an a great ride, great views traveling up Roan Mountain. Even stopped and got off the bike to hike a part of the Appalachian trail at the top. The views were stunning and will never forget them. The back side of ride to Bakersville NC had a lot of twists and turns and a great place to stop, eat, and fill-up the gas tank. Cool ride would recommend this one…
Found this ride on the Motorcycle Travel Network which was on a Facebook group I am part of. Its a chill and adventurous ride through the Tennessee and North Carolina mountains and valleys. Just a great ride and relaxing journey overall!

Roan Mountain to Bakersville
“The Roan Warrior” – After you reach Bakersville on NC 261 you can return the same way you just came and climb back up to Carvers Gap and see the views from a different angle and end up back where you began in the town of Roan Mountain. Take a Right at the light onto the motorcycle ride called, ” The Roan Warrior” which is another 61 miles after the Roan Mountain Run 261. Continue on NC 226 West towards the quaint town of Red Hill. Take a right at the light in the center of town Keep riding on 226 then you will cross over the Appalachian Trail again at the State Line of NC/ TN where the road changes to TN 107 then take a right turn on to TN 173 (Simerly Creek Road) which take you to Tiger Valley and 19E and back to Roan Mountain.
“Catawba Coyote” – After you reach Bakersville on NC 261 you will stop at the light and continue straight on NC 261 This 66 mile section of the Roan Mountain Run 261 motorcycle ride is called the, “Cawtawba Coyote”. Continue on NC 261 to Spruce Pine North Carolina downtown area which there is a upper road and lower road both filled with shops, restaurants and a beautiful park next to the Toe River by parking getting off the bike and crossing the bridge into the park. Coming out of the town of Spruce Pine you will be taking a left on 19E along the River which is a great raod to cruise with the long weeping curves, and tigh turns until you reach Cranberry. Take a Left on 19 E and continue through ELk Park and back to Roan Mountain.
